Luanda, Angola – July, 2018: The 2nd Africa Oil & Gas Local Content Conference & Exhibition (ALC 2018) organised by the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO), the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum of the Republic of Angola and AME Trade Ltd will take place from 26 – 27 November 2018 at the Epic Sana Hotel in Luanda, Angola. ALC 2018 will bring together government representatives, NOC’s, oil & gas companies, services providers and decision makers from APPO, whose Republic of Angola is part of, with the goal of influencing local content policies in the industry. The theme for the 2018 edition is “Advancing local content across the oil and gas supply chain in African petroleum producing countries“.
Local content policy is a key focus implemented by African governments for stimulating long-term economic development and growth in the continent. These policies aim to boost transfer of knowledge, skills and value to the national population providing access to growth and economic development for the country. International firms in Africa must now comply with the respective local content policy of the country they operate in.
Local content strategies if implemented effectively have the potential to be even more successful if they are created around businesses, locals and economic perspectives. With the growing concern of developing local content in most African nations, APPO has set a goal for its member countries to achieve an average 30% of Local Content in Oil and Gas activities.
ALC 2018 will emphasise on the current local content policies, regulatory and legislative frameworks across the petroleum producing countries. It will also outline local content success stories from local, national and international oil companies in order to provide recommendations for sustainable development in the hydrocarbon industry.
Building on the success of the 1st edition, which gathered +250 registered participants from APPO member countries, international oil companies and hydrocarbon service companies, ALC 2018 is expected to double the attendance.

The African Petroleum Producers Organization, APPO, is an intergovernmental organisation created in 1987 in Lagos, Nigeria, to serve as a platform for African petroleum producing countries to cooperate, collaborate, share knowledge and competences.
Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum of the Republic of Angola, MIREMPET, is the result of the merger of the Ministry of Mines and Geology with the Ministry of Petroleum. Angola is currently the second largest petroleum producer in Africa and the industry is estimated to contribute around 50% to the country’s GDP.
